One in three older Canadians falls every year — and most falls happen in the bedroom or the bathroom, the two rooms a camera can never ethically enter.

A camera can't go there

Bedrooms and bathrooms are exactly where falls happen — and exactly where an older adult won't accept a lens. So the highest-risk rooms end up with no coverage at all.

Wearing an alarm visibly signals frailty — to family, to guests, to the wearer. So it comes off, and after a real fall there's often no way to press it anyway.

Radar goes where a camera never can.

Good to know

Is there really no camera?

Correct. The sensor is millimetre-wave radar — there is no lens and no microphone, so no image or audio is ever captured, stored or transmitted. There is nothing to leak, because there is nothing to see.

How can radar tell someone fell?

Radar measures how objects in a room reflect radio waves, which reveals movement, distance and rough posture — standing, sitting, lying down. A sudden drop to floor level followed by someone staying there looks very different from someone lying down in bed.

Is the radar safe to have in a bedroom?

Yes. It transmits at a tiny fraction of the power of a mobile phone, in the same class of low-power sensing used in automotive parking sensors and consumer devices.

Does it work through walls and in the dark?

Darkness makes no difference — radar doesn't need light. Each sensor covers the room it's placed in; multiple rooms means multiple sensors.

Where is the data stored?

In Canada. Only activity signals and alerts are kept — never video or audio, because none is produced.

How are we alerted?

Through the WalledCare app and dashboard, with optional email or text to one or more family members or on-duty caregivers.
